Grown in USA, also known as wax myrtle. Some people take bayberry for head colds, painful and swollen intestines, (colitis), diarrhea and nausea. In large amounts bayberry is used to cause vomiting. It is also used to stimulate the circulatory system. Bayberry is sometimes used as a gargle for sore throat, as a douche for vaginal discharge, and as an poltice for skin ulcers and wounds.

A wax can be obtained from the berries by boiling them in water making the wax float on the surface, where it can then be easily skimmed off. This can be used, among other things, to make candles that give off a pleasant balsam-like fragrance when burned. The also had its uses as a medicine and was used traditionally as a remedy for dysentery and to treat ulcers in the digestive system.
