Magnolia Bark is a natural remedy said to offer a wide range of health benefits, and has been associated for over 2000 years in Chinese medicine for the stomach, lungs, spleen and large intestine. It has been commonly used to treat abdominal bloating, gas, nausea, diarrhea, menstrual cramps and indigestion. Its antibacterial activity may help to reduce excess mucus, often associated with colds and other viral infections. Studies recently have found that the herb inhibits the production of cortisol, the substance that encourages fat storage, and may be effective in weight loss programs. Other studies have shown that the herb may be more effective than the combination of calcium and vitamin D in relieving hot flashes, vaginal dryness, anxiety, depression, irritability and loss of libido. Some preliminary studies show that Magnolia Bark extracts may have some effectiveness for boosting brain function, and therefore beneficial in alleviating symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
Pregnant women and those who are nursing should not begin a Magnolia bark supplement regimen.

    • May relieve stress and anxiety. Studies show that taking magnolia bark can help reduce stress and improve your mood. Magnolia has also been found useful in reducing anxiety in women between 20 and 50 years old. Many animal trials have also been done, which shows its anti-anxiety effects on the subjects.
    • May improve sleep. Many use magnolia bark extract for getting better sleep at night or as a remedy for insomnia. and can reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep.
    • May support weight loss. Early research shows that magnolia bark extract could help those who have a habit of overeating when stressed to lose weight. This is due to its stress-relieving properties.
    • May aid digestion. Magnolia bark can improve the health of your digestive system. Per some animal studies, the extract of this herb improves the levels of gut bacteria that aid in healthy digestion. Studies also show that it can help food move more easily through the digestive tract.
    • May lower the chances of cancer. More and more studies are coming up that support the use of this item  in cancer prevention and treatment. While more large-scale human studies are needed, current research shows that it has the potential to prevent tumor growth in skin, liver, breast, colon, brain, and other organs.
    • May offer other health benefits. Both the key polyphenols in magnolia bark — magnolol and honokiol — have antioxidant properties. As a result, they can help to reduce inflammation in your body and decrease your chances of having conditions like heart disease, Alzheimer's, and diabetes.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given magnolia bark a “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) status. This herb belongs to the Safety Class '2b,' which means it should not generally be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Additionally, since one use of magnolia bark is to help in sleeping, you should not take it alongside other anti-anxiety drugs or sleeping pills. Doing so may cause drowsiness and make it unsafe for you to drive or use heavy machinery.

Some uses for Magnolia Bark are...
Anxiety. Research shows that taking a product containing an extract of magnolia  reduces some negative feelings of anxiety caused by stress, such as tension or nervousness. But taking this product doesn't seem to improve long-standing feelings of anxiety due to stress, however, It can improve mood and decrease stress in people with mental stress issues.

Dental plaque. Using a toothpaste containing magnolia extract and xylitol might reduce the severity of dental plaque by a small amount.

Menopausal symptoms. Early research shows that taking tincture of Magnolia Bark can help decrease hot flashes and improve sleep quality.

Weight loss. So far, there isn't much evidence that magnolia causes weight loss. There is some research showing that overweight women who take an extract of magnolia do not gain as much weight as other women. They seem to eat fewer calories, possibly because the magnolia reduces their stress-related eating. But there is no reliable evidence that taking this product actually causes weight loss.
Clinical studies document potential efficacy as an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer agent, as well as for use with Alzheimer disease, depression, diabetes, and menopause.
