White oak bark has been used as an herbal remedy for centuries, and there is a renewed interest now that modern science allows a better understanding of the active ingredients. White oak bark contains 15 to 20 percent tannins, which is responsible for much of the beneficial effects. Interestingly, the high tannin content of certain wines is typically a result of aging wine in oak barrels. White Oak Bark also contains iron, potassium, vitamin B12 and other nutrients, which may play a role in the treatment of certain conditions. When infused in warm water, it helps as a diuretic and can help Hemorrhoids, bleeding, varicose veins & pinworms. It is known to be Anti-Parasite/Antibacterial & can be used as a Topical Preparation for removal of bee stings.
Topical applications are thought to suppress inflammation and soothe itchy skin, while oak bark tea is used to help treat diarrhea, the common cold, sore throats, bronchitis, loss of appetite, and arthritis.
Oak bark’s main uses relate to treating inflammatory conditions, such as bleeding gums and hemorrhoids. It’s also used to treat acute diarrhea.

Spiritual: As the month of Duir has the summer solstice in it, the Oak is a powerful symbol of Midsummer. Money, success, strength, fertility, stability, health, healing, potency and good luck. It is said that the voice of Jupiter can be heard in the rustling of the leaves. At midsummer, the future can be divined by listening to the wind in the leaves. Different types of Oak will lend slightly different properties to magical workings. Red Oak is fiery, White Oak is for solidity and strength, Brown Oak is earthy and is used for grounding (Brown oak is English white oak that has been stained by a fungal infection.)
